"Following a series of terrorist attacks and after the tragedy in Beslan we are forced to take extra measures in order to provide security and integrity of the country. The extra measures will be taken strictly within the frames of the Constitution and democratic principles," the minister said speaking on Wednesday at the session of the European Business Club.
Mr. Lavrov confirmed Russia's participation in the antiterrorism coalition.
The minister stressed that the stability of Russia is a priority. "We will not stand any attempts to ruin Russia's unity, its sovereignty and territorial integrity," Mr. Lavrov said.
According to him, Russia intends to strive for the single standard in actions of the global antiterrorism coalition.
Mr. Lavrov recalled that immediately after the tragedy in Beslan the UN Security Council upon the Russian initiative adopted an antiterrorism resolution. "The resolution didn't have any declarative statements, was official and aimed at concrete measures to counteract terrorism," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
Furthermore Mr. Lavrov noted that Russia in its relations with the European Union is ready to go as far as the European Union is ready to go in its relations with Russia.
The nature of the relations between Russia and the European Union is a strategic partnership, he said.
Mr. Lavrov especially outlined the importance of the economic diplomacy. "The economic diplomacy makes up a significant part of our foreign policy and is one of its priorities," the minister said.
According to him, the cooperation between Russia and the European Union in the sphere of the economy has been on the rise recently and it is highly important to create the necessary conditions for the work of European businessmen in Russia and Russian businessmen in Europe.
"The participation of Russian businessmen on the European market is a success is not only for Russia but for the whole Europe as well," Mr. Lavrov said.
"Your success is at the same time our success," he stressed.
