MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian baritone Dmitry Khvorostovsky was acclaimed recently at Latin America's most prestigious classical music festival "Servantino" in Mexico. The old Juarez theatre has never heard such stormy applause. After the concert, the singer shared his plans with the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda.

He is to give a performance in the Kremlin on Victory Day celebrated in Russia on May 9. At the end of May, Khvorostovsky will tour about Russia, from Moscow to Vladivostok, together with the Alexandrov military choir under the sponsorship of the defence ministry. Next autumn will see the singer giving concerts in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belorussia.

"I'll sing wartime songs, which is what can be expected in the year when the 60th anniversary of the victory in the second world war will be observed. Though, it is quite possible that some other kind of songs will be on the programme as well," said Khvorostovsky.

The singer is now busy recording his favourite Soviet songs.

He praised many of his Russian colleagues but added that the Russian show business wants some improvement to rise to a higher artistic level.

On May 28, 2004, Dmitry Khvosotrstovky gave a solo concert on Red Square which was equipped with big mirrors and super-powerful sound devices. The first part of the recital which was broadcast live to 37 countries was dedicated to most popular opera hits while the second one to wartime songs.

Dmitry Khvorostovsky won world recognition after his victorious appearance in the 1989 TV BBC competition in Cardiff, Great Britain, where he was awarded the Best Voice title.
