He expressed confidence that the Russian Communists' struggle will be marked by the efforts and knowledge of the grandson of the Soviet Communist Party's general secretary. "You knew his grandfather and we hope that the grandson will carry on his banner," Vladimir Ulas told the audience.
"No party can survive without the inflow of fresh force. Together with Andrey Brezhnev, we shall do everything possible to make our party powerful again, to make it a ruling one," said Pavel Basanets, secretary of the Western district's Communist party committee.
For his part, Andrey Brezhnev thanked those present for the cordial greetings. "I am proud to be a Communist party member again and will do my best to help the Party survive and triumph."
Andrey Brezhnev who initiated the establishment of a New Communist party some time ago, has told RIA Novosti about his withdrawal from this project. He denied any explanations, noting however that there was a complex set of reasons.
Andrey Brezhnev who had formerly been harshly critical of the Communist Party's leader Gennady Zyuganov said he would keep upholding this view. "Criticism is no insult and I'll keep criticising Zyuganov if need be."
Andrey Brezhnev reported that he had been registered as a Soviet Communist party member in the Trade Ministry from 1981 to May 1991 when the ministry was closed. He did not resume his registration until the present day.
After the official part was over, the session celebrated the event in a traditional Russian manner-with vodka. Andrey Brezhnev however drank only mineral water.
