RUSSIA'S WORK AS CHAIR OF UN COUNTERTERRORIST COMMITTEE TESTS POSITIVE

MOSCOW, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia as the chair of the UN Security Council Counterterrorist Committee will go on taking the efforts required to oppose terrorists.

This is said in the communique of the Press and Information Board of the Russian Foreign Ministry on results of the committee's sitting on Tuesday.

The United Nations Security Council has considered Russia's report on the current activities of the committee and its work programme for the next three months.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the activities of Russia as the chair of the committee at the complex stage of its reorganisation have won a unanimous positive assessment.

"It was specially noted that an important step has been made in restructuring the committee and noticeable progress made in developing new forms and methods of its work", the ministerial communique reads.

Participants in the discussion spoke up for the need to take comprehensive measures for enhancing the level of cooperation between states and the committee. Members of the Security Council also spoke up for the earliest meeting of goals outlined for the committee by Resolution 1566 as an important step on the road of countering international terrorism.

"Making use of this mood, Russia as the chair of the Counterterrorist Committee will go on making the efforts required for taking efficient measures under the UN aegis to oppose terrorists of all shades wherever they operate", reads the communique of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
