BELARUSSIAN OPPOSITION LEADER HOSPITALISED

MINSK, October 20, (RIA Novosti) - A leader of the Belarussian opposition, Anatoly Lebedko, head of the United Civil Party (OGP), has been hospitalised in the traumatology ward of an emergency hospital, RIA Novosti was told in the hospital's admission ward.

A medical report issued to Lebedko says that he has a slight craniocerebral injury, damaged intercostal tissues and a hematoma in the region of the right kidney.

Lebedko was detained during an action by the Belarussian opposition and taken to the Leninsky police precinct from where he was moved to the emergency hospital late on Tuesday night.

Yekaterina Tkachenko, OGP press-secretary, said, citing witnesses, that Lebedko had received all his injuries during his detention.

OGP representatives said that they would file a request with the prosecutor's office to open a criminal case on facts of Lebedko's beating. As documents they intend to append the medical report issued in the emergency hospital. and also photos and video footage provided by journalists.
