RESCUERS FROM RUSSIA'S SOUTH STUDY NEW AMMO DETECTION EQUIPMENT

ROSTOV-ON-DON, October 19 (RIA Novosti's Sofia Brykanova) - Rescuers of Russia's South familiarize themselves with new ammo detection equipment. As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry's Southern Regional Center, training of pyrotechnical units leaders and chiefs of engineering services was launched on Tuesday at the 495th center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

During the course the participants will have to study and practice the use of new equipment being introduced to the inventory of the Emergencies Ministry's Southern Center.

In particular, the rescuers will familiarize themselves with a ferroprobe metal detector capable of detecting a 500-kilogram bomb at the depth of up to six meters.

The participants will also be trained to work with the Meduza mine detector, which can detect explosive devices of a specified type letting others pass.

As the press service explained, this equipment in a number of performances is better than best foreign prototypes. The device is intended for search in urban and industrial built-up areas.

The course will last three days.
