A spokesperson for the Northern Fleet told RIA Novosti that the ships' mission covered a vast area of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Barents, Norwegian and North Seas and included two visits to the Norwegian port of Stavanger.
The U.S. Navy was represented at the joint exercise by the Hugh City cruiser of the Ticonderoga class. In the course of the exercise the Russian and U.S. warships covered a distance of over 800 nautical miles within four days.
The joint exercise consisted of 12 stages, the major ones involving execution of joint maneuvering tasks, pilotage in narrow waters, conduct of ship survivability measures, fulfillment of safe navigation and communications tasks, a replenishment at sea mission, participation in a search and rescue operation, inspection of a suspect vessel, and conduct of a joint operation to prevent illegal activities at sea, the Northern Sea Fleet's spokesperson specified.
After the exercise, the large antisubmarine warfare ships Admiral Levchenko and Severomorsk called at Norway's naval port Stavanger where the two parties summed up the results of the joint exercise onboard the U.S. Hugh City cruiser.
According to an old naval tradition, Commander of the Northern Fleet Vice Admiral Mikhail Abramov presented the ships' crews with a roast pig to mark their return to home base.
