MOSCOW, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Bulgaria's ambassador to the Russian Federation Ilyan Vasilev spoke for expanding Russian companies' involvement in the Bulgarian gas industry. "The prospects of increasing gas supplies to Bulgaria are significant. Russian companies should expand their presence on the Bulgarian market", said the diplomat at a RIA Novosti's press conference.

He said that signed during the upcoming visit of Russia's Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov to Bulgaria would be a number of agreements on increasing the transit of Russian gas through Bulgaria to Serbia and Greece.

The ambassador pointed out that the talks on building the Burgos-Alexandropulis oil pipeline were at the final phase and expected for the near future was signing a trilateral memorandum between Russia, Bulgaria and Greece.

Mr. Vasilev explained that this project had been originally aimed at budgetary funding, however, later it turned out that the states could not completely support its implementation.

"The states are able to render only political support to implementing this project, particularly, to ensure low risks", stressed the ambassador. He pointed out that the trilateral memorandum would be signed towards this goal.
