MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - The 1st Moscow modern art biennale will open on October 18, 2005. It is initiated by the Russian federal agency for culture and cinematography, reports the Cultural Information Agency web site.

Over 50 European, American and Russian artists are expected to participate in the exhibition. Seven famous curators, including Yaroslava Bubnova (Bulgaria), Rosa Martinez (Spain) and Nicolas Bourriaud (France), promised to help implement this project.

The Central House of Artists, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin State Fine Arts Museum, the Shchusev Museum of Architecture and the Modern Art Museum will host the main expositions.

Biennale commissar, general director of the ROSIZO state museum and exhibition center Yevgeny Zyablov spoke about the importance of this event. "Even the title of the Moscow biennale, Dialectics of Hope, points to its importance. The implementation of this project in Russia is a great event concerning our participation in the international art life," he said. "Biennales are held in all the leading countries. This is not a widely acknowledged experimental ground but also a global institution, which the art emerges from," he continued. "I would like to stress that a biennale is not only an art exhibition but the process of creation of new achievements. I am happy that the artistic world has recognized Russia's right to be a biennale venue. It was discussed at different levels 8-10 years ago. And now the state and society are finally ready to hold the exhibition. A biennale is always provocative because modern artists provoke conflicts with society," Yevgeny Zyablov concluded.
