He heads the delegation of representatives of the Russian business quarters who have arrived in Pakistan to establish bilateral trade and economic contacts.

According to Stepan Sulakshin, the main task of the delegation in Pakistan is to establish direct contacts with the business quarters in the country and to inform the partners about the Russian market of goods and services.

Yesterday, a presentation ceremony of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also of a number of Russian industrial companies and research associations took place in Islamabad. They included the Urals motorcycle plant, the Penztyazhpromarmatura and Geoneftegaz. The Voronezh Research Institute of Telecommunications on Tuesday already signed an agreement on cooperation with one of the Pakistani firms.

Pakistani First Deputy Federal Minister of Trade Tasnim Noorani and Russian ambassador to that country Sergei Peskov addressed the presentation ceremony.

"The time ahs come to fill our bilateral cooperation with a real content, to make it more dynamic and consistent," Sergei Peskov underscored. In his opinion, it is necessary to efficiently use the high economic and export potentials of the two countries and to establish contacts between small and medium enterprises.

According to the preliminary estimates, trade between Russia and Pakistan in 2003-2004 totaled only 150 million dollars. Russia exports to Pakistan chemical products, fertilizers, timber and paper, and imports clothes, fabrics, hides and skins, leather articles, and food products.

It is expected that very soon Islamabad will pass important decisions for developing bilateral contacts, including Russia's participation in expanding the metallurgical plant which was built by Soviet specialists in the biggest Pakistani city of Karachi, and also the possibility of purchasing big consignments of Russian bulldozers and trucks.

On Wednesday, Russian enterprises and institutes take part in the presentation ceremony in Karachi.
