MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Chairman of the Council of Muftis Ravil Gainutdin expects a slump in the number of crimes during the Ramadan, the month of fasting sacred for Moslems (October 14-November 14). He said about this at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

"I think that Ramadan will become a month of peace and quietness. I hope for a slump in crimes among the Moslems and those who use Islamic slogans as a cover during the sacred month of Ramadan," the Mufti said.

"Moslems had no right to commit evil during the holy month of Ramadan. During these days it is categorically prohibited to commit sin, even to utter foul words with regard to other people. As for murder and terrorism, it is heinous evil which is categorically rejected by Islam. If somebody commits a terrorist act or other evil deed during the Ramadan this means that he has no faith," Gainutdin explained.

"I think that the ideologists of the evil of terrorism - those who are prodding people to commit terrorist acts - understand this and will not want to discredit themselves in the eyes of truly faithful Moslems. A believer will not commit a sin in the sacred month of Ramadan," the Mufti said.

Those who committed the terrorist act in Beslan, did not understand that by their actions they are doing harm to all Moslems, to entire Islam, he said. "Millions of law-abiding Moslems are suffering because of their evil deeds," he stressed.

Appealing to all Moslems Gainutdin called them for peace and good deeds in the days of Ramadan.
