MOSCOW, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian and Canadian prime ministers have noted the priority importance of partnership in the field of fuel and energy.

Russian Premier Mikhail Fradkov's press secretary Alexander Zharov said so on the results of his talks with the Canadian analogue Paul Martin.

The Russian and Canadian premiers welcomed the dialogue begun this year between Gazprom and the Canadian corporation Petro-Canada on arranging business cooperation.

"Both the companies have gone to inking the memorandum on mutual understanding. It fixes their desire to begin regular shipments of Russian liquefied natural gas to the North American continent", Zharov said.

A promising direction in Russian-Canadian relations is the development of "cooperation in what is called the 'Nordic dimension'", Zharov noted.

"Having close climatic conditions and the common border across the North Pole, Russia and Canada are 'geographically' doomed to be partners in tapping the natural riches of the Arctic", Zharov said.

The two prime ministers also spoke of Russia's joining the World Trade Organisation.

Also in discussion was the holding of a regular sixth session of the intergovernmental economic commission, having no such gatherings over almost three years. "Such work should be stepped up", Fradkov said.

High on the list of priorities at the talks was the struggle against international terrorism, the prime ministerial press secretary said.

Fradkov and Martin stressed the fact that both the countries were allies in the anti-Hitler coalition.
