YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Two WWII aerial bombs weighing 150 and 250 kg were found during dredging works in the port of Korsakov in Sakhalin's south, a spokesman for the regional search and rescue unit of the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported on Saturday.

The dangerous finds were set ashore and trucked. They will be taken to a special ground and eliminated.

Moreover, various fragments of WWII ammunition and artillery guns were found on the bottom.

In August 1945 port Korsakov (named after General Governor of East Siberia Mikhail Korsakov, who contributed much into the exploration and development of Far East and Sakhalin, in 1876), an important transport center of the Japanese imperial aviation suffered massive Soviet aircraft attacks in August 1945 during the liberation of Southern Sakhalin (after Russia's defeat in the Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905 the southern part of Sakhalin had passed to Japan).

After the liberation Korsakov became a Soviet aircraft basis, therefore the origin of the two bombs is still unknown, the spokesman said.
