DUSHANBE, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - Makhmadsho Ilolov, Tajikistan's labor and social welfare minister, said he hoped to sign an agreement on labor migrants with Russia.

"The sides have completed all interstate procedures and there are no problems with the signing of this document," Mr. Ilolov told journalists.

He said the Tajik Labor and Social Welfare Ministry had already sent a letter to the Tajikistan's government saying that it was ready to sign the agreement.

The signing will take place during Vladimir Putin's upcoming official visit to Dushanbe.

Because of the serious economic problems in Tajikistan - according to the UN, more than 80% of Tajikistanis live below the poverty line - labor migration to Russia is a way out for many Tajiks.

According to the International Migration Organization, about 1 million Tajiks work abroad. The agreement will improve the status of Tajikistan's labor migrants and will give them certain social guarantees in Russian territory.

According to the Russian Federal Migration Service, there are about 800,000 labor migrants from Tajikistan in Russia.
