RIYADH CONFIRMS INTEREST IN OIL COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA

SOCHI, October 7 (RIA Novosti) - Saudi Arabia is interested in cooperating with Russia in the oil and gas sector. To promote it Sergei Oganesyan, deputy head of Russia's Federal Energy Agency, will pay a visit to the Kingdom in the end of this year.

RIA Novosti learnt this from the interview with Hasan Abdelwali, ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Russian Federation, who participates in the 3rd international economic forum Kuban-2004, now held in Sochi on Russia's Black sea coast.

Oganesyan will be in the company of businessmen and representatives of the Russian Oil and Gas Industrialists' Union, the ambassador said.

The diplomat said that "the context of the upcoming talks will be in line with the intergovernmental oil and gas agreements between Russia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia". In discussion at the talks will be discussion of preparations for the second sitting of the intergovernmental commission and related areas of cooperation, he said.

The commission may ink several agreements, particularly on the encouragement and protection of investments and avoidance of double taxation, the ambassador noted.

"The final stage of talks on these agreements is now under way and we hope that, during the second sitting, the commission will sign them", he said. And added that nobody can rule out that before the sitting other documents on cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia may be prepared for signing.
