OPTIMAL SUN-BOUND TRAJECTORY

MOSCOW, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - Not yet on Mars, man is thinking of getting closer to the Sun. The leading space agencies world-wide are busy preparing flights of an unmanned spaceship towards the Sun. Russia has done a worthy share developing the optimal flight trajectories, which will make it possible to save energy and study planets of the Earth-group en route, the Russian scientific news agency InformNauka reports.

Use of conventional chemical boosters in spaceships for following a simpler trajectory will require too much energy. The intended trajectory with maneuvers around Jupiter called for the use of a heavy and costly Proton carrier. Researchers from the Moscow-based Aviation Institute propose an alternative trajectory making it possible to make use of light and low-cost conversion carriers Dnepr.

They limit the time of flight to not more than seven years and the craft's mass to at least 400 kilogrammes. With that, they have calculated the flight trajectory with maneuvres around the Earth and Venus. It is a spiral coming close to the Sun. En-route research experiments, such as observation of Mercury which the craft will pass many times, will be possible.
