RHODOS (Greece), October 2 (RIA Novosti's Olga Lipich) - War on terror tops the agenda of the international forum "Dialogue of Civilizations".

The forum organized by the Center of Russian National Glory and the Andrew the First Called Foundation took place from September 29 to October 2 on the Greek island of Rhodos and was attended by more than 420 participants from 40 countries.

"The Forum acknowledges the need of providing a broad information support for the idea of holding a dialogue of civilizations and exerting influence on the existing political systems in order to make them recognize the value of such a dialogue as opposed to the ongoing hegemonic oppression and terrorism," the forum's final document says.

According to the forum's co-chairman, first vice president of the Russian Railways Company Vladimir Yakunin, the Mayor of Rhodos supported, in principle, the proposal brought forth by Theophanes, the Metropolitan of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz, who suggested that an Alley of Memory commemorating all the victims of terrorist attacks should be set up on the island.

Among other things, Mr. Yakunin believes that discussion of the problems confronting contemporary youth was one of the highlights of the forum. "For the first time we took a serious look at the relations between generations and had to admit that the evident discrepancy between traditions and current lifestyles must be addressed as soon as possible in order to promote and facilitate an effective dialogue between generations," Mr. Yakunin said.

Besides, the participants acknowledged the need for developing "pluralistic forms of global regulation as opposed to the current one-sided dominance and market unpredictability".

The forum laid a special emphasis on the importance of preserving the entirety and diversity of the world's cultural traditions. The participants arrived at a conclusion that it was necessary to reverse the trend of letting diverse cultural traditions slip into "separatism and extremism leading to militant confrontation".

The forum's resolution calls for promoting a dialogue between representatives of the world's religions to foster respect for diverse religious beliefs of people.
