RUSSIAN COMPANIES TO PARTICIPATE IN PRIVATIZATION OF BULGARIA'S ENERGY SECTOR

SOFIA, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - Russian companies will be able to participate in the privatization of Bulgaria's energy sector and construction of the Belene nuclear power plant.

Bulgarian Vice Premier, Minister of Economy Lidiya Shyleva announced this at a Saturday press conference in Sofia following the 9th session of the intergovernmental commission for trade and economic and scientific-technical cooperation.

The Russian side will be able to participate in the Belene construction if it fulfills two conditions - electric energy price and security," the minister said speaking about Russia's chances to win the tenders.

According to her, three major thermoelectric power plants, Varna, Rousse and Bobov Dol, and other energy objects will be privatized soon. Moreover, Bulgaria is to privatize shipping companies in the future.

"Russian companies have many possibilities to participate in the privatization and we welcome them," Lidiya Shuleva stressed.
