ROSOBORONEXPORT TO SHOWCASE 250 ITEMS AT QATAR ARMS EXHIBITION

MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti's Olga Semenova) - At the 5th international special firearms exhibition MILIPOL QATAR'2004, due in Doha on October 4 through 6, the Federal Unitary State Enterprise Rosoboronexport will put on show about 250 military and non-military items, its press service has said on Friday.

"The Russian exhibition will give a sidelight on the latest individual protection means, new modifications of small arms and special weapons, special systems for protection of the state border and vital facilities", the press service said.

Rosoboronexport will provide exhaustive information on a wide range of helicopters, combat and service characteristics of air-defence systems, armoured vehicles, multiple-launch missile systems, update naval armaments.

Rosoboronexport offers to foreign customers arms and military hardware updating programmes, joint research work in arming antiterrorist formations with reliable special equipment and arms, top-professional training of specialists for their service and application", the Rosoboronexport press service said.

Small arms will make up the most of the Rosoboronexport exhibition at MILIPOL QATAR'2004.

"We showcase the most competitive general and special small arms, such as the Kashtan and Bizon-2 submachine guns", the press service said.

As usually, visitors will show interest in world-known efficient small arms - improved Kalashnikovs (5.56- and 7.62-mm AK-101, -102, -103, -104), BSS and Dragunov SVD and SVDS sniper rifles.

"Our exhibition will present export versions of compact and shoulder-fired antitank rocket launchers, grenade launcher systems", the Rosoboronexport press officer said.

He focused on special small arms developed by the Central Precision Engineering Research Institute and offered for export. "One of them is the 9-mm semiautomatic pistol SR-1, 9-mm SR-2 submachine gun and the 9-mm compact SR-3 submachine gun. The original bullet design and optimalballistics ensure the high penetration and hitting capacity also in shooting at targets with antifragmentation bullet-proof vests and non-armoured machines", the interviewee said.

He also believes that the secret services will be interested in the 7.62-mm PSS pistol for no-noise and flashless shooting, which is "crucial against terrorists and in saving refugees".

The Rosoboronexport also cited the showcased AS submachine gun and 9-mm VSS rifle, which "pierce bullet-proof jackets from 400 metres away and in reliability and use in adverse conditions (dust, dirt, sand, rain etc,) at a temperature from -50 to 50 Centigrade are as good as the renowned Kalashnikov".

Also of interest are the SPP-1M pistol and APS submachine gun for underwater firing, distinguished by "the ammo high penetrating capacity due to its original bullet design and optimal ballistics".

The Rosoboronexport spokesman cited among the most intriguing exhibits the ammunition rounds for special firearms SP-4, -5, -6 and the 12.7-mm machine gun Kord for hitting light-armoured targets and fire weapons, manpower from 1,500 to 2,000 metres.

"A case apart is a new generation of bullet-proof jackets and helmets of special steel", the Rosoboronexport press officer said.
