CONOCOPHILLIPS TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION IN LUKOIL CAPITAL NOT AT MANAGEMENT SHARES' EXPENSE

MOSCOW, September 29 (RIA Novosti) - ConocoPhillips plans within two to three years to increase its participation in the Lukoil capital to 20 percent, though not at the expense of shares owned by its management.

We can do it within two to three years, ConocoPhillips president James Malva told the press conference.

Yes, we will buy shares but not from the Lukoil management, he added.

Malva said that, despite the Yukos situation, ConocoPhillips finds fitting the time for investing in the company. More so that the American and Russian governments have given a backing for our projects, he said.

Malva noted that the ConocoPhillips interest regarding its participation in the Russian companies' capital is not limited. Though, I think, proceeding from practical considerations we will not stop at Lukoil, he said.

So far, before the year end ConocoPhillips is going to increase its participation in the Lukoil capital to 10 percent, he specified.

Our goal is to increase it from 7.6 to 10 percent, he said.

To him, this will be through an open-market tender.

On Wednesday Springtime Holdings Limited, representing ConocoPhillips' interest, has bought at the auction Lukoil's state-held block of shares (7.59 percent) for 1.988 billion dollars at the initial price being 1.928 billion dollars.
