NEW YORK, September 25 (RIA Novosti's Sergei Ryabikin) - The Russian-proposed new draft resolution of the United Nations Security Council on additional measures against terrorism targets working out a clear-cut strategy and strengthening the legal base of the struggle against terrorism, Alexander Yakovenko, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has told Russian journalists.

"The draft provides for working out additional measures to ease the procedure of extradition of terrorists and their accomplices, end their financing, free movement of and access to any kinds of weapons", Alexander Yakovenko said.

The need of adopting the resolution is dictated by the global nature of terrorism, requiring additional efforts to be taken against the threat.

Alexander Yakovenko explained that, on the practical plane, it is the further increase in the role of the Counterterrorist Committee of the United Nations Security Council and the efficiency of its mechanisms.

Goals are set to expand cooperation between different international, regional and subregional organisations in ending terrorism, as well as stepping up interaction with the Counterterrorist Committee.

"Pinpoint work with states needing help for strengthening their antiterrorist potential is coming to the foreground. Towards this end the Counterterrorist Committee has been instructed to ensure the earliest departure of its missions to such countries", he said.

At the present time, the United Nations Security Council is holding consultations on this matter.
