RUSSIA, CHINA INTEND TO BOOST INTERACTION IN FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and China intend to boost interaction in the sphere of the fight against terrorism. This is said in the communique signed on Friday by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and Chinese State Council Premier Wen Jiabao, who is on an official visit to Moscow, after the ninth regular meeting of the two countries' heads of government.

"Condemning terrorism in all its forms, Russia and China intend to build up interaction in the antiterrorist activity," notes the document which states a permanent growth of the terrorist threat.

The communique stresses the UN leading role in the global fight against terrorism and voices support to measures to counter terror taken by the UN and the Security Council Counter Terrorism Committee.

The document notes that Vladimir Putin's visit to China, due in October 2004, and his meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao will become the main event in bilateral relations this year and will play an important role in stimulating a steady development of Russian-Chinese relations.

The two states' heads of government considered and in general approved the course of work on the plan of actions to implement the provisions of the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Russia and China (2005-2008).

"The sides express satisfaction with the progress in cooperation in the trade-economic and humanitarian spheres and believe that such cooperation has entered a new stage of development," reads the communique.

"It can be expected that on results of 2004, trade turnover will get close to or exceed the $20 billion mark," reads the document.

At the same time, Moscow and Beijing aim at increasing reciprocal trade turnover by 2010 to $60 billion.

"To ensure a steady development of reciprocal trade, it's necessary to work out plans of activation and intensification of cooperation on all directions for the mid-term and long-term perspective, to increasethe trade turnover by 2010 to $60 billion and more," notes the document.

The sides confirmed the intention to contribute to increasing the deliveries to China of oil from Russia by rail.

Russia and China intend to define one or several joint large-scale projects in the space sphere.

The document also notes the sides' intention to realize the cooperation plan in the field of development and production of civil aircraft.

The heads of government also agreed to expand cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, including cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants and in the sphere of the nuclear fuel cycle.

The sides also spoke for expanding the scale of interbank cooperation and for continuing interaction in the fight against money laundering and against terrorism financing.

Russia and China attach great importance to further development of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, in particular, development of Russian language teaching in China and Chinese in Russia.
