ULYANOVSK, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - The Prosecutor's Office of the Ulyanovsk region has confirmed that Yuri Budanov sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for the murder of Chechen girl Elza Kungayeva withdrew his appeal for pardon.

"Budanov has submitted an official withdrawal to the administration of the Ulyanovsk region and the administration handed it to the pardon commission," senior assistant of the Ulyanovsk Prosecutor Vasily Zima told RIA Novosti.

Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Vladimir Shamanov earlier signed the appeal for pardon of former commander of the 160th tank regiment Yuri Budanov serving his sentence in the Ulyanovsk colony.

The regional Prosecutor's Office found illegalities in the consideration of Budanov's appeal for pardon. The regional prosecutor has sent an address to Vladimir Shamanov saying that Budanov's pardon is inexpedient at the moment.

On July 25, 2003 the North Caucasian district court found Yuri Budanov guilty of Elza Kungayeva's murder in summer 2000 and sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a colony with a strict regime.
