VIENNA, September 18 (RIA Novosti's Borislav Pechnikov) - The United States have failed to impose on the IAEA Board of Governors a tough resolution on IAEA Director General Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei's statement on Iranian nuclear programs, an informed source in the IAEA Secretariat in Vienna told RIA Novosti on Saturday. Closed sessions of the IAEA Board of Governors, which comprises 35 members, are held in Vienna.

The U.S. draft resolution implied the consideration of the so-called Iranian nuclear dossier by the UN Security Council, which is authorized to make a decision on sanctions against Tehran for its non-fulfillment of key provisions of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Russia, China, some European countries and other influential members of the IAEA Board of Governors came out against the draft. According to representatives of the above-mentioned states, IAEA inspectors should be given as much time, as they need to make a qualified and overall report on this problem.

The final version of the resolution of the IAEA Board of Governors on Iranian nuclear programs is to be adopted on Saturday, RIA Novosti's source said.
