VILNIUS, September 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Lithuanian State Security Department regards the activity of the Kavkaz (Caucasus) Center web site as provocation against Lithuania, reads the department's press release.

The press release stresses that the information which has been recently published on www.kavkazcenter.com promotes international terrorism and provokes national and religious discord thus breaking the laws of the Lithuanian Republic.

The Lithuanian State Security Department cannot allow terrorism propaganda in any form, says the press release.

According to the department, the special services have launched the investigation of the motives and causes predetermined those people who created all conditions for terrorism propaganda in Lithuania.

The State Security Department is to ask the Lithuanian parliament to introduce strict responsibility for terrorism and war propaganda.

Yesterday Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas said that the Kavkaz Center web site provokes inter-ethnic and inter-religious discord. In this connection the Lithuanian Defense Council decided to recommend to stop its activity in the near future.

In compliance with the Lithuanian legislation, the court is to make a decision on the closing of the web site.

Earlier this week the commission on journalist and publishing ethics came to the conclusion that the materials of the Kavkaz Center web site, which as believed in Moscow is financed by Chechen separatists, contain no propaganda of terrorism, inter-ethnic and inter-religious discord.
