RUSSIAN DEFENSE MINISTER ON DOCTORS' WORK IN BESLAN

MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov told the NTV television network on Sunday that he highly appreciated military doctors' performance in Beslan.

"Not a single wounded person died in Beslan because of failure to receive medical care timely, promptly, within seconds. There is no complaining about it," he said.

"Everyone could see that on television - there were several medical field posts, surrounded by armored personnel carriers, where the doctors received wounded kids, rendered them first aid, and forwarded them to civilian doctors," Ivanov said.

The minister said military aircraft had made over 40 sorties with military and civilian doctors and medical cargo onboard.

"It was Beslan, Moscow, Chkalovsky [a major military airfield near Moscow - Ed.], a real air bridge. Even now we are airlifting the wounded here [in Moscow]. We will do that whatever long it might take to raise all the wounded who found themselves in our clinics," the Russian Defense Minister said.
