VLADIVOSTOK HOSTS INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON DEVELOPMENT OF SAKHALIN CONTINENTAL SHELF

VLADIVOSTOK, September 12 (RIA Novosti's Veronika Perminova) - The Sixth International Asian-Pacific Symposium Ocean and Ice Technology, Development of Continental Shelf, And Sakhalin Oil-and-Gas Projects is opening in Vladivostok on Sunday.

Professor Alexander Bekker of the organizing committee said that representatives of 14 countries were expected to come to the symposium; well-known Russian and foreign academics and engineers are to present about 90 presentations on the development of ice-covered waters, maritime technology and know-how, he went on. Specifically, presentations will be focused on the design and operation of sea oil-and-gas production facilities and state-of-the-art technology and know-how used in the development of ocean, shelf, and littoral zone.

Over 70 chief experts and executives of major oil and gas producers are also expected to come to the forum.

The Sunday agenda includes registrations and a ceremonial reception. The symposium will be declared open and the plenary meeting will begin on Monday, September 13. On Thursday, September 16, the participants will have an opportunity to visit the seaport of Vostochny to see the world's largest dry dock where two concrete basements of Sakhalin 2 oil platforms are being built.

The symposium is aimed at promoting technological progress and international sharing of know-how.
