SARATOV, SEPTEMBER 11 (RIA Novosti) - The ninth national junior-league boxing championships is opening in Saratov Saturday.
According to spokespeople for the regional sports committee, more than 200 boxers from 26 countries have arrived to take part in the event, including Bulgarian, British, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Irish, Israeli, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Croatian and CIS athletes.
The European amateur-boxing association is represented at the tournament by its Vice President, Agadzhan Abiyev; the referee panel is headed by Germany's Heinz Birkli.
The guest-of-honor list includes Vyacheslav Fetisov, Head of the Federal Sports and Tourism Agency; Eduard Khusainov, President of the Russian Boxing Federation; and astronaut Pavel Popovich, President Emeritus of the Russian Boxing Federation.
