MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS, RUSSIA'S FOREIGN MINISTER SNAPS AT WEST

MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's partners in the West ought not to meddle in its domestic developments, Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, strongly warned as newsmen asked him whether Russia intended to change its tactics in Chechnya with the recent terror acts.

"Our Western partners are calling us to U-turn our political tactics. Mind your own business as Russia is settling its home affairs-that's my advice to them," he said.

"The West is harassing us as it grants asylum to murderers who are to blame for the Chechen tragedy," the Foreign Minister went on with his verbal rebuff.

"Russia has policies not tactics when it comes to Chechnya." Those policies aim to guarantee citizens' rights in their own land. Russia pursues those policies when Chechens vote for reforms, and elects a republican president. Its president died in a terror act of May 9. Then, Chechnya elected another president. It will elect a parliament quite soon, too, added Mr. Lavrov.
