GASPROM & BOSNIA FOR LONG-TERM CONTRACTS?

MOSCOW, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - Adnan Terzic, Prime Minister of Bosnia-Herzegovina, is in Moscow on visit. Today, he held conference with Alexei Miller, Gasprom board chair, to appraise chances for long-term contracts, on which the Russian monopoly will export natural gas to Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The conferees also discussed prospects to gasify Bosnia-Herzegovina, and for Gasprom investment in related projects. The agenda also included gas transits to neighbouring countries via Bosnia-Herzegovina, Gasprom PR say in a press release.

The contacts will not go on before Bosnia-Herzegovina pays stale gas import arrears for 1991-95, pointed out Mr. Miller. He, however, acknowledged that recent years had offered no problems, with Gasprom exports steadily rising.

The 1991-95 debt makes US$104.8 million. The two governments are thinking whether the issue may be settled by accounting an even older debt-Soviet clearing indebtedness to former Yugoslavia.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is now paying for Russian gas in full and on schedule. Roughly 300 million cubic metres has been earmarked for this year's supplies.

Russian gas exports to Bosnia-Herzegovina started in 1978. Now, Russia is its only natural gas supplier.

Gas exports followed an intergovernmental agreement before Yugoslavia collapsed. No agreement was made with Bosnia-Herzegovina's independence.

Chances for a long-term contract did not even come under discussion till quite recently, what with a stale debt. An acting contract was repeatedly prolonged for short terms. The current is expiring, October 1.
