VLADIKAVKAZ, MOSCOW, 4 Sept - RIA Novosti. The North Ossetian Health Ministry has told RIA Novosti that the republic's hospitals are currently treating 477 former hostages, including 233 children.

A source told RIA that those people who had only received superficial wounds and were in a satisfactory condition had been discharged.

At 01:00 Moscow time, the republic's hospitals were caring for 704 patients, including 259 children, who were wounded in the terrorist attack.

By 10:00 Moscow time, 140 bodies had been recovered from the school, the North Ossetian Interior Ministry told RIA.

A ministry spokesman said that the death toll might exceed 250.

It was reported earlier that 79 bodies had been identified.

The wounded children who will be flown to Moscow in Emergencies Ministry planes will be treated at children's hospitals no. 9 and 13, Ivan Sakhno, the director of the All-Russian Medical Centre for Disasters, told RIA.

According to him, about ten wounded children will arrive in Moscow.

Dr Sakhno said that the first children to arrive would be taken straight to hospital no. 9, which would take the majority of the children.

"Doctors from Moscow's children's hospital no. 9 are mainly working in the hospital in Beslan," Dr Sakhno told RIA. He added that this why the most of the children would go to that hospital in the Russian capital.

Dr Sakhno pointed out that all the children being flown into Moscow were in a serious condition and were mainly suffering from gun shot wounds.

RIA learnt in hospital no. 9 that staff were expecting the children on Saturday morning and were ready to take as many people as necessary.
