RUSSIAN OIL SHIPMENTS MEET A THIRD OF GERMANY'S DEMANDS

BERLIN, September 2 (RIA Novosti's Taras Lariokhin) - Russian oil shipments cover a third of Germany's requirements, the German Mineral Fuels Producers' Union reports.

In the first half of 2004, the export of Russian oil was 18.1 million tons, increasing by 10.3 percent from the same period last year.

The second largest supplier of oil to the German market is Norway, followed by Libya and Great Britain.

Overall, in the first half of this year Germany imported 3 percent more oil than in the same period last year.

In the first quarter of this year, Russian-German trade turnover increased by over 18 percent.

The German Statistics Agency says that the total of imports from Russia during the period was 3.8 billion euros, or 18.3 percent more than in the first quarter.

The volume of German exports to Russia reached 3.6 billion euros' worth in the second quarter, meaning a 18.9-percent rise from the first quarter.
