MOSCOW, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - The United Russia party takes easy the initiative of the "2008: free choice" committee to lodge a suit to the Supreme Court demanding to abrogate the results of the State Duma elections and call another.

"This event caused neither surprise nor any anxiety. The defeated parties, especially those that did not even get seats in the parliament's lower chamber having failed to secure at least 5% of the votes, are trying to remind of themselves by all means. It is only natural but completely ineffective, because the United Russia won a fair and impressive victory in the parliamentary elections", reads the statement of the party's press service.

The document points out that the United Russia gained "the victory and the voter's trust by virtue of intensive election campaign, its clear-cut position on many issues the country is concerned with and because many well-known and respectable persons supported us".

"The United Russia's success is lawful and reasonable, reads the statement. Our victory might only surprise those, who did not follow the political situation in the country".

The press service stresses that the United Russia "orderly continues to keep its promises to the voters and advocate its position".

The United Russia is confident about its place on Russia's political arena and wishes that all other participants of the political process find their position", notes the statement.
