MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russian customs officers encountered a new form of fraud, when foreign counterfeiters hide their products under the "Made in Russia" tags, said the press service of the Russian Federal Customs Service on Monday.

"In course of the joint operation on interdicting fraudulent declaration of goods, officers of the Siberian Customs Department's East Siberian region and East Siberian Operational Customs detected and seized about six tons of goods not declared in customs documents", said the agency's interviewee.

According to him, two railway containers placed under the regime of International Customs Transit and going from China to Finland accommodated goods in the amount significantly exceeding that declared in the documents.

"The containers carried ladies' and men's jackets and coats, which, judging from labels, were made in Russia. Printed on the tags in Russian were the fabric's components, care procedures and even our customary size of 46-48", noted the Federal Customs Service's spokesman.

"According to the customs officers, they have never experienced anything of the kind. It is common knowledge that counterfeit products of world companies come to the Russian market, but it is the first time that the customs officers have encountered counterfeits hidden under the "Made in Russia" tag. The established facts lead to the assumption that this is a new form of fraud invented by adventurers with regard to the tightened control over import of goods from South-East Asia to the Russian territory", emphasizes the press service.

It explains that following issue into free circulation customs officers may only hold customs inspection of import goods, because sale procedures of home-made products are supervised by other agencies.

"So, taking into account the fact that the goods were imported without customs clearance, we can calculate the incredible profit that the owners would get if they shipped the unregistered goods to a quiet place and then sold it", said the Federal Customs Service's press service.

At present two administrative cases has been initiated, while experts are assessing the value of the seized goods.
