EXPERTS FIND TRACES OF EXPLOSIVE AMID TU-134 WRECKAGE

MOSCOW, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - Experts have found particles of an explosive substance amid the wreckage of the Tu-134 passenger liner, which had crashed in the Tula Region on August 24, head of the Federal Security Service's PR Center Colonel Sergei Ignatchenko announced on Saturday.

According to him, "the additional examination of the fragments of the Tu-134 passenger plane which had crashed near Tula has revealed traces of hexogen."

He stressed that in view of the latest instructions given by President of the Russian Federation, the FSB (Russia's Federal Security Service) is studying the international experience in combating air terrorism. "Among other things, we plan to carefully study the air transport security system currently employed in Israel. The Israeli system is universally recognized as the most effective in the world," the head of the FSB PR Center pointed out.

On Friday, Mr. Ignatshenko said that examination of the fragments of the Tu-154 passenger liner, which had crashed in the Rostov Region revealed traces of an explosive substance. According to him, the preliminary investigation proved that the substance represented a well-known explosive hexogen.

The two passenger planes crashed late on Tuesday evening. The Tu-154 of the Sibir Airlines was en route from Moscow to Sochi, the Tu-134 of the Volga Aviaexpress Airline - from Moscow to Volgograd. Both took off from Moscow's Domodedovo airport.

The Tu-154 crashed 138 kilometers off the city of Rostov-on-Don. The plane disappeared from radar screens at 22.35. Moscow time.

The Tu-134 disappeared from radar screens at 22.56. Moscow time near the village of Buchalki in the Klimovsk district of the Tula Region.

The dual air crash claimed 90 lives.
