HOTELS REPLACING ROSSIYA TO BE BUILT IN 3.5 YEARS

MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti's Grigory Tebenikhin) - The demolition of the Rossiya Hotel and construction of new buildings will take no more than 3.5 years, First Vice Mayor in the Moscow government Vladimir Resin, head of Moscow's architectural and building department, said on Thursday.

According to him, designers and builders of the new complex are being currently chosen. We are considering a number of variants and have not made the final decision yet, he noted.

The new buildings will be lower than the Kremlin, Mr. Resin specified. A concert hall and a movie theater will be preserved, he added.

Speaking about the Moskva Hotel, he said that the building would not change but would have a larger capacity and meet the modern level.

Pedestrian walking areas will be extended in Moscow's center, Vladimir Resin said.

In his words, this is closely connected with making the Garden Ring a one-way street.

The Moscow government has approved the hotel building plan till 2010, the Moscow economic policy and development department reported.

All in all, hotels placing 61,660 people will be built in Moscow.

Moreover, a coordination council for the building and reconstruction of hotels, tourism and recreation centers has been formed under the Moscow government to boost the development of Moscow's hotel complex.
