POPULATION'S DEPOSITS GROWTH TREND REMAINS IN FIRST HALF OF 2004

MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - The population's bank deposits growth trend remained in the first half of 2004, despite reduced growth rates, says the survey published on the web site of Russia's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on Wednesday.

"Natural persons' deposits balance in January-June increased by 16.7% and reached 1,767.4 trillion rubles, while their share in the banking sector's liabilities grew from 27% as of January 1, 2004 to 28.6% as of July 1, 2004 respectively," reads the document.

At the same time, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry points out that the growth trend remained despite the reduction of natural persons' bank deposits growth rates in May (by 1.4%) and June (by 1.3%) as compared to the previous months (monthly growth in January-April ranged from 2.6% to 3.8%).

The volume of natural persons' deposits grew by 22.1% in rubles and 5.9% in foreign currency.

In the structure of natural persons' deposits in terms of maturity, the primary rates were featured by the deposits attracted for a term of one year and more, which grew by 39% from the beginning of the year (by 4.8% in June).

The share of the Russian Savings Bank on the market of natural persons' deposits reduced from 63.3% as of the beginning of 2004 to 61.5% as of July 1, 2004 (June witnessed a 0.4% growth).
