YUKOS CASE: YUGANSK REGISTER ARREST LAWFUL, SAYS COURT

MOSCOW, August 24 (RIA Novosti) - In today's hearings, the Moscow Arbitration Court confirmed the legality of the Yuganskneftegas stockholder register arrested.

The Yuganskneftegas is the largest Yukos oil-extracting affiliate.

Lawyers of the Yukos petroleum mammoth were disputing legality of the register arrest. As they said at today's hearings, bailiffs violated the acting legislation on court verdict execution, on the securities market, and on joint-stock companies.

The bailiffs, on the contrary, regarded their move as perfectly legal.

The register was arrested, July 14, to execute a court verdict for the Yukos to pay 99.4 billion roubles, roughly $3.4 billion, as back taxes for 2000.
