RUSSIA OFFERS H1 STATISTICS FOR PRICES, EMPLOYMENT

MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - The Federal State Statistics Service is circulating a paper for basic economic indices of the initial half-year.

Industrial manufacturers' price growth dropped pace last month against June, though it outran the consumer price increase, as before, points out the paper.

Manufacturers' prices came 2.5% up, June, against May, while consumer prices increased by 0.9%, July against June, and 0.8%, June against May.

Consumer prices have increased 7.1% since the year's start, and manufacturers' prices by a crying 19.1%. Respective percentages against July 2003 were 10.4 and 24.7.

Freight transport tariffs came 2.1% up, July against June, 10.8% since the year's start, and 19.6% against July 2003.

The cost of a fixed consumer basket for essential commodities and services-an index used for public purchasing ability comparison between the various parts of Russia-made monthly per capita 3,898.4 rubles, on a national average, by last July's end. The Central Bank rate for today is R29.22/$1. The cost came 0.9% up since the end of June, and 9% since the year's start. It was 5,960.1 rubles for Moscow, July's end-a 1% increase for the month and 8.6% for the half-year. Respective figures for St. Petersburg are 4,213.4 rubles, 2.9% and 9.4%.

July sent national average food prices 1% up, as against 0.4%, July 2003, with the monthly subsistence ration at 1,183.2 rubles-a 1.5% increase since the end of June, and 9.4% since the year's start.

The monthly subsistence ration for Moscow was 1,490.6 rubles, end of July-a 3.8% increase for the month, and 8.5% since the year's start. Respective figures for St. Petersburg are 1,307.5 rubles, 2.3% and 8.2%.

Staple goods prices came 0.6% up, July, against 0.5% for July 2003, and paid service tariffs by a respective 1.3% and 1.9%.

5,747,000 Russian nationals were unemployed for the end of July, as against 5,170,000, end of July 2003-a 10% increase.

1,600,000 unemployed persons were officially registered across Russia for July's end. Chechnya accounted for 329,200 of the national total.

The able-bodied population was estimated as 72,900,000, by July's end-approximately half the entire population.
