SOCHI, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the current situation in Transdniestria (self-proclaimed republic in Moldova) has emerged from the last year's missed possibilities.

"Today we should abstain from prompt actions and prevent the conflict from escalating," he noted.

On his part, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said that "the sides should try to achieve agreements themselves, meanwhile we should be involved in this process and both sides must listen to us".

"They don't want to listen to anyone so far," the Ukrainian President stressed.

According to him, the Moldovan government informed the Ukrainian leadership about the blocking of all cargoes carried via Transdniestria.

"I don't understand how this can be possible," Mr. Kuchma said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is considering the situation, he added.

Russia and Ukraine are guarantors in the Transdniestrian settlement.
