A STREET IN MOSCOW TO BE NAMED AFTER AKHMAD KADYROV

MOSCOW, August 17 (RIA Novosti) - A street in Yuznoye Butovo, district in Moscow's southwest, will be named after Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov on his birthday, August 23. The Moscow government took a relevant decision on Tuesday.

Moreover, a memorial plate will be unveiled at the mission of the Chechen Republic on Novy Arbat Street in Moscow's center on August 23.

Meanwhile, Chechnya will commemorate the Hero of Russia (this honorary title was conferred on Akhmad Kadyrov posthumously) in its own way. All babies born on August 23 will be granted 5,000 rubles (about $170) and all boys named Akhmad will get extra 10,000 rubles.

Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov died in a terrorist act at Grozny's stadium on May 9, 2004.

On October 10, 1999 Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov dismissed Akhmad Kadyrov from the post of the chief mufti of Chechnya and proclaimed him "enemy of Chechen people" who "should be eliminated".

On June 12, 2000 Vladimir Putin appointed Akhmad Kadyrov head of the Chechen interim administration. After that, the latter resigned from the chief mufti's post.

On August 12, 2000 Akhmad Kadyrov appeared on the Chechen TV and called on militants to surrender. He promised amnesty to those not involved in grave crimes.

On October 5, 2003 Akhmad Kadyrov was elected Chechen President.
