MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) - Very soon investors will vie for the project of a multifunctional complex in the place of Europe's largest Rossia Hotel close to the Kremlin walls, Moscow chief architect Alexander Kuzmin told the briefing on Wednesday.

In between the Moskva River embankment and Varvarka Street, a large stylobate will rise, housing multiplex cinemas, trading and catering centers.

About eight blocks will be built with four to five hotel complexes. The new buildings may have atrium spaces, low enough not to put the St.Basil Cathedral out of view.

As they come closer to the Kremlin, the class of the hotels will increase, Kuzmin said. Hotel rooms will be as many as in Rossia.

The Moscow chief architect said that the project ideology intends maximal use of underground space with parkings for about a thousand cars.

A broad square facing the river, minding restoration of the Kitaigorod wall and the historical Zaryadye zone with a restored "once-lost" church, is intended to be created.

The Stars Alley will be moved to the square.

Kuzmin said that the new complex may be linked to the Gostiny Dvor and the Kitaigorod metro station by pedestrian underpasses. The total floorspace of the complex will 250,000 square meters, of which 100,000 square meters is underground, said the press service of the Moscow architectural-building complex.

Kuzmin recalled that in the Stalinist times a many-storey apartment building was planned to rise in this place. The project of architect Chichurin, for which he got the Stalin Prize, was never translated into reality.

Kuzmin also said that the new Moskva Hotel will repeat the former outlines and the renewed Minsk Hotel will become an organic part of Moscow's main thoroughfare, Tverskaya Street.

The Moskva Hotel project "will be made public in the next few days." "The initial project of architect Shchusev [author of the just removed Moskva Hotel] will not," Kuzmin said.

As regards the fate of the Minsk Hotel, the chief architect said that the project of the new hotel will be about as high as the surrounding buildings. Dismantling will begin in October. The number of hotel rooms will be substantially more, said the press service of the Moscow architectural-building complex.
