MOSCOW, August 3, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - South Korean President No Mu-hyon is scheduled to pay an official visit to Russia in September 2004, the press and information department of the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, on August 2 chairman of the State Duma international committee Konstantin Kosachev met with Lim Chae Jung, chairman of the Unification, Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee of the South Korean National Assembly.

"Russia has become one of the main trade and economic partners of the Republic of Korea and a key participant in the inter-Korean settlement," Lim Chae Jung noted.

According to him, the project of gas supplies from Russia's Siberia via Chinese territory to South Korea is one of the most perspective bilateral projects.

The second major project closely connected with prospects of the inter-Korean settlement is the unification of railroad networks of South and North Koreas and their attachment to the Trans-Siberian Railway. This will let fully use Russian territory as a strategic transit region for European-Asian trade.

The South Korean parliamentarian believes that the forthcoming summit will certainly focus on these issues.
