BULLS HAVE THEIR LITTLE DAY IN WARY MARKET

MOSCOW, August 2 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian stock market was apprehensive today, with token deals. Blue chips, however, came up toward closing time.

The Russian Trading System index rose by a modest 1.03% to make 545.81, 18.00, Moscow time, in a day that brought a mere 98 transactions to US$9,100,000.

Dealers are sitting on the fence, and it's hard to expect the stock up, says Maxim Shein, BrokerCreditService analytical board manager.

Today's is only a passing rise, as we can see from the small deals, points out Sergei Zakharov, Zerich Capital Management analyst.

Though problem-laden, the Yukos led the RTS day, 15.89% up. Mosenergo was the most bearish, 5.61% down.

The Russian stock market had no bad news today-better late than never, says Zakharov. The dealers saw a ray of hope as the Yukos mammoth has a chance not to stop or suspend petroleum extraction after the Arbitration Court cancelled bailiffs' demand for seven billion rouble costs.

The Mosenergo plummeted with no more big bids, so speculators chose to fix long-term profits, reasons Shein.

The day brought the LUKoil 0.81% down as dealers were shifting to the cheaper Yukos, adds Zakharov.

The exchange is far from optimistic, and its prospects not radiant, warn experts. Doubt-ridden dealers were sending stock up and down, and up again all day long, and the final rise came only thanks to the Yukos, remarked Zakharov.

The Yukos will remain not unlike a pendulum, and get on its investors' nerves for a long time yet, said Shein.

Petr Bubnov, Finam asset manager, highlights inert exchange deals, which he explains by sluggish summertime and dealers' explicable caution with market instability of several months' standing.

The Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange was 0.02% down, 18.45, Moscow time, to 505.11. The Yukos came up the highest-10.54%, the Mosenergo the lowest, 3.85% down against Friday closing time. The LUKoil was 0.42% down.
