MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow Federation of American Football has denied reports by some media alleging that a few meningitis cases were registered among participants of Europe's American Football Junior Championship currently held in Moscow.

"On behalf of the Organizing Committee of Europe's American Football Junior Championship we are authorized to officially state that no cases of meningitis or other diseases have been registered among the Championship's participants," reads the statement released by the Federation's press service.

The statement points out that the information regarding a few cases of meningitis recently registered among sportsmen referred solely to some 10-year-olds who had arrived in Moscow to take part in another tournament - Russia's Junior Soccer Championship.

Europe's American Football Junior Championship has been taking place at the sheltered arena of Moscow's Olympiisky sports complex since July 24. The Championship closes on August 1.

National teams of juniors in the 17-19 age range from eight European countries - Austria, Germany, Denmark, Russia, Finland, France, the Czech Republic and Sweden - are taking part in the Championship.

Today, Sweden plays against Denmark and the Czech Republic against Finland in matches for the 5th and 7th places respectively. On Sunday, August 1, the Russian team will meet their Austrian counterparts in a match for bronze medals, with the title to be contested later in the day by the German and French footballers in the final match of the Championship.
