MOSCOW, BEIJING TO SETTLE WTO ISSUES WITHIN YEAR

MOSCOW, July 27 (RIA Novosti) - Russian-Chinese negotiations on Russia joining the World Trade Organisation are on. One of their regular rounds has finished in Moscow. The delegates remain determined to settle all issues and finish the talks within this year, they reassured after the round, which left either Party fully satisfied.

Maxim Medvedkov, commercial negotiation department head at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and Russia's chief negotiator for WTO membership, summed up the talks for the media today.

Negotiations are nearing their end on commodity import tariffs, and very few issues stay unsettled on service access to the Russian market. The delegates have agreed to cancel the problems quite soon.

The nearest round of talks on Russian commodity and service import prospects has been scheduled for September. Preceding it will be early August's bilateral expert conference on non-tariff arrangements-customs procedures, and plant and animal sanitary inspection.

Chinese delegates have chosen not to get back to Russian fuel prices, Mr. Medvedkov emphatically remarked.

As an ad hoc team for Russian WTO membership met for session in Geneva last week, the Chinese delegation demanded Russian domestic and export gas prices levelled out. Bilateral talks during the session cancelled the matter for good.
