MOSCOW, July 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Foreign Ministry called upon Transdniestria's leadership to abstain from any administrative acts with regard to the schools teaching in Moldavian with use of the Latin alphabet.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the recent days witnessed aggravation of the situation around the schools operating in Moldavia's Transdniestrian region, which teach in Moldavian using the Latin alphabet. The local authorities' decision on closing some schools, which, according to Tiraspol, had not passed appropriate registration, aroused protests from the public and Moldavia's official representatives.

"It is perfectly clear that the main reason for the incident is the persisting unsettlement of the Transdniestrian problem. The lack of political understanding between Tiraspol and Chisinau as to their country's future still affects the population's living conditions on both sides of the Dniester, and among other thing is expressed in the practical difficulties of interaction between the said schools' administrations and the local authorities", says the statement.

"Russia, being an intermediary in the negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement, is concerned over the current situation and calls upon Transdniestria's leadership to use sound and constructive approach to this problem and abstain from any administrative acts to these schools while the sides are discussing their future status and development of common educational standards", says the Foreign Ministry's statement.

"We consider it advisable that the sides, as it was coordinated within the framework of the Political Issues Permanent Conference, should as soon as possible resume the branch experts group's work towards finding compromises that will establish necessary conditions for normal beginning of the school year in all schools of the region, including those teaching in Moldavian with use of the Latin alphabet", Russia's Foreign Ministry points out.
