GROZNY, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - The army special forces killed 13 militants in Chechnya on Sunday, Ilya Shabalkin, a representative of the Regional Operational Staff for controlling the counter terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, told RIA Novosti.
In his words, a few hours ago army special forces encountered a gang numbering over 20 people near Gansolchu (Kurchaloi region). 13 terrorists were killed; others managed to escape. A passport issued for a Gudermes resident was found with one of those killed.
Col. Shabalkin also said the uniform of a brigadier general of the so-called army of Ichkeria was found on site.
"By preliminary information, the killed terrorist group is what remained of the gang that attacked a few days ago the settlement of Avtury," Col. Shabalkin said (18 officers of the Chechen President's Guard Service died then).
In his words, search for several terrorists who escaped is underway.
