MOSCOW/TBILISI, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russian peacekeepers in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone aimed to stabilize the situation there, Colonel Vyacheslav Sedov, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

"Peacekeepers in the conflict zone do not take any side and fulfill their stabilizing functions," Colonel Sedov said.

According to him, peacekeepers are trying to prevent bloodshed and escalation of the Georgian-Ossetian armed conflict.

On Saturday the Imedi TV company (Georgia) broadcasted movements of the Russian peacekeepers' military hardware from Georgian to Ossetian settlements of the Tskhinvali region, RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Russian servicemen, cars, and several armored vehicles were positioned near Ossetian armed units, Imedi noted.

Meanwhile, all Georgian health services were put on alert to receive the wounded men from the conflict area, Georgian Health Minister Vladimir Chipashvili said.

"We have prepared ambulance cars, medicines and special equipment for the wounded servicemen and civilians in case of an armed conflict," the minister stressed.

On Saturday Mr. Chipashvili attended the hospital in Gori, where the wounded Georgian interior servicemen were taken last night.

According to medics, two of five servicemen are in grace conditions. All measures are taken to save their lives.
