ALIEV CONFIRMS RUSSIAN-AZERI STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

BAKU, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - Azeri President Ilkham Aliyev and head of the Russian Audit Chamber Sergei Stepashin, currently in Baku, discussed bilateral cooperation and interaction between the audit chambers of the two countries on Saturday.

Russia and Azerbaijan boast a high level of mutual understanding and cooperation at all levels, Ilkham Aliyev said.

"We are strategic partners involved in regional and international cooperation," he noted.

Mr. Aliyev also expressed satisfaction with active partnership of Russian and Azeri joint ventures.

On his part, Sergei Stepashin said that he saw no reticence in our relations.

Sergei Stepashin reported on his meeting with his Azeri counterpart Namik Nasrullayev. They agreed to send a joint analytical letter to the Russian and Azeri presidents on their problems, failures of the inter-governmental economic commission and new laws, which they need.

The second joint session of the Russian and Azeri audit chambers is scheduled for mid-2005, Mr. Stepashin added.

After that, the meeting proceeded behind closed doors.
